Our Mission

To make effective cleaning and personal care products without the waste that has traditionally come with them.

That means removing unnecessary water, reducing packaging and emissions, manufacturing locally where we can, and considering the impact of our decisions on our people, communities and the environment.

Purpose Statement

"Cleanery’s purpose is to reduce the environmental impact of everyday cleaning and personal care by replacing water-heavy, single-use products with effective concentrated alternatives, while creating positive outcomes for our people, communities and the places in which we operate."

How we put this into action

  • Products with less waste

    Traditional cleaning and personal care products are mostly water. Cleanery makes the active formulation as a concentrated powder, then customers add the water at home.

    This format uses 99% less plastic waste and produces 99% lower emissions than the equivalent bottled product. It also allows products to be made closer to the markets they serve and shipped without unnecessary water.

  • A business held to account

    Cleanery has been a Certified B Corporation since May 2023.

    B Corp Certification independently assesses a company’s social, environmental and governance practices. It gives us a framework for measuring our impact, identifying where we need to improve and holding the business accountable as it grows.

  • People and Community

    Cleanery is an accredited Living Wage Employer. Everyone employed by Cleanery, along with regularly contracted workers covered by the accreditation, is paid at least the current New Zealand Living Wage.

    The Living Wage is independently calculated and reflects the income workers need to meet ordinary living costs and participate in society with dignity.

Measuring our emissions

We measure Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions across our operations and supply chain boundary. In FY24/25, our measured footprint fell from 175 tonnes to 101 tonnes. We offset 120% of that footprint through Gold Standard carbon credits.

How we measure our emissions

How we measured- Cleanery determined its emissions profile in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard published by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, with supporting data from the New Zealand Ministry of the Environment guide "Measuring Emissions - A guide for Organisations - 2022 Summary of Emission Factors". The boundary of this calculation is from the raw materials ex works supplier to the delivery of the sachet to the distribution centre in the consumers country. Emissions have been calculated for Scopes 1, 2 and 3 as defined by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, and the calculations have been peer reviewed.

    Cleanery participates in Hello Period’s Bloody Good Workplace programme and provides free reusable period products to its team.

    Through GoGenerosity, customers can add a donation of Cleanery products to their order. Cleanery matches each donation, with products distributed through Fair Food.

    Every Cleanery employee can take paid time to volunteer for a charity or cause that matters to them.
